Jobs : Proposal for position of Project Coordinator at the University of Pavia

Friday 1 February 2013, by Alexandra Peereboom

I’d like to bring to your attention an opportunity for a Research Project funded by the Italian Ministry of Research that requires as local coordinator a "young" scientist, not presently employed with a permanent contract by any Italian institution.
In case the project is funded, the "young" scientist will earn a three-year position at the University of Pavia, Italy.

*** T I M I N G I N F O R M A T I O N ***
Please carefully read the reminder of this message, and let me know ASAP of your interest in this proposal and your intention to be a candidate for this position.
Due to the strict deadline, I can consider your reply only if received before Friday 1 February, at 16:00 CET.
I will be able to inform you of our choice for the Coordinator position on the morning of Saturday 2 February.
All the necessary action (not much, really) will then have to be completed by Monday 4 February (preferably in the morning).

The Project framework is Futuro in Ricerca 2013 (apologies, information is not available in English...)
web: http://futuroinricerca.miur.it/
Call: http://attiministeriali.miur.it/anno-2012/dicembre/dm-28122012-%281%29.aspx
Instructions: http://futuroinricerca.miur.it/documenti/2013/Istruzioni_bando_giovani.pdf
Template for short proposal: http://futuroinricerca.miur.it/documenti/2013/Facsimile_preproposal_futuro_2013-agg.09-01-2013.pdf

The project topic is:
Photonic functional devices based on semiconductor ring laser devices.

The research team is the following:
- Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy), coordinator
- role in the project: fabrication of InP active devices (ring lasers)
- University of Pavia (Pavia, Italy)
- role in the project: experimental functional characterization of InP ring lasers
- Politecnico of Torino
- role in the project: modelling of InP ring lasers as functional devices
- an international collaboration with the University of Glasgow (U.K.) is also planned

[VERY IMPORTANT] The "young" scientist must fulfill the following requirements:
- owner of a PhD title that is between 2 and 10 years old (on 28/12/2012)

- age: less than 40 years old

Salary, and earned academic position
The "young" scientist will be hired by the University of Pavia for a period of 3 years (corresponding to the duration of the Project).
The position will be "temporary assistant professor".
The gross salary is around 48k€/yr, which turns into a net salary of 1700-1800€/month (for 13 months/yr), with full retirement contribution.

In case the Project is funded, the research unit of the University of Pavia will be awarded, around 120k€ for carrying out the research Project, in addition to the amount (150k€) needed for the salary of the local Coordinator.

Facilities, University of Pavia Team and Research activity
The Dipartmento di Ingegneria Industriale e dell’Informazione will make available its ultra-short-pulse laser facility and full consumables and lab equipment to carry out the experiments for the characterization of the devices.
The local team will include myself, Luca Tartara (assistant professor, expert t in the use of the ultra-short-pulse laser facility), and a hired PhD/post-doc.
The research activity will concern the ultrafast characterization of the functionality of the semiconductor ring lasers, intended for all-optical signal processing.

Timing and bureaucracy.
# Timing for submission of a short proposal is extremely short. The Project deadline is Monday 4 February 2013.
To comply with the above constraint, we can consider you as a candidate only if your reply is received before Friday 1 February, at 16:00 CET.

The short proposal is almost entirely completed, as it is a sort of resubmission of a previous proposal that was well evaluated last year, but not funded.
# Required information from the "young" scientist is the following:
* Scientific CV (in English; in case an italian translation is need I will take care of this)
* List of 10 publications from the period of five years ranging from 2008 to 2012
* Registration and data submission to a specific website of the Italian Ministry of Research (details to be communicated later on)
# Project starting date (and starting of Assistant Professor position at University of Pavia)
- around Spring 2014
# Project duration
- three years

Final remark

Please let me know if this proposal can be of interest to you.
In case the project is funded, the funding will be issued under the condition that all the proposers (including YOU) agree to take on the project.
So, please take any decision with due meditation.

I remain at your disposal for any further clarification.

Thanks, and best regards
